Director of Social Innovation and Field StudiesALIA KATE
Alia Kate is the Director of Social Innovation and Field Studies programs at Sequoyah’s high school. For the past ten years, Alia has worked in the fields of social innovation, entrepreneurship, international development, and experiential education. She launched a fair trade design business which has brought her into conversation with changemakers around the world. She has also designed and led courses that taught the principles of social entrepreneurship and participatory development to American high school and college students within the context of trips that she led to rural communities within Costa Rica where the focus was coffee production and sustainable rural tourism. Alia has rounded out these international courses as a leader at New York City Outward Bound where the focus was on bringing experiential education to the urban and wilderness settings in the form of leadership and team-building courses. Alia holds a BA from Oberlin College and is currently an administrator at Claremont McKenna College.
